Why calm doesn’t come from thinking more
Hi, this is Sonal.
Today is 13th March, and I want to talk about something many high-performing professionals struggle with.
It’s this belief that if we just think hard enough, we can solve anything.
In the tech world, that belief makes sense.
When there is a bug, you debug it.
When something breaks, you analyze it.
When there is a challenge, you use logic to fix it.
For years, I approached my stress the same way.
If I felt overwhelmed, I tried to analyze why.
If I felt anxious, I tried to reason with myself.
If I felt mentally tired, I told myself to “just relax.”
But here’s what I slowly realized.
Not every problem is solved by thinking.
Some things need a different doorway.
When I was working in the IT industry, my mind was constantly active. Even after work ended, the thoughts continued — planning, reviewing, solving problems that hadn’t even happened yet.
I tried meditation apps.
I tried watching shows.
I tried “doing nothing.”
But my mind still kept running.
Then one day, I returned to something I had loved as a child.
Painting.
At first, it felt almost strange. I hadn’t held a brush in years. There was no goal, no expectation — just colors and a blank canvas.
And something interesting happened.
For the first time in a long while, my mind stopped trying to solve things.
Because painting didn’t ask me to analyze.
It asked me to feel.
As my hands moved slowly across the canvas, my breathing softened. The tension in my shoulders dropped. And that constant internal noise became quieter.
That moment made me realize something powerful:
Logical minds don’t always calm down through more thinking.
Sometimes they calm down through creative expression.
This understanding is exactly why I started teaching the Creative Reset approach through painting — especially for people in demanding, analytical careers.
If you’ve been feeling mentally overloaded lately, you might not need another productivity tip.
You might just need a different way to release what your mind has been carrying.
This Saturday at 8 PM, I’m hosting the Creative Reset Master Class, where I guide professionals through a simple painting process designed to gently relax an overstimulated mind.
You don’t need to be an artist.
You don’t need any special skills.
Just the willingness to pause.
